Inspired by Connie Anne Toma’s reminder in her book, "Small Business, Big Dreams" to take radical responsibility, to stop shrinking, and to finally decide.
Burn the Smallness
by Laureen Quick
I burned the map of excuses—
each curled edge spitting smoke,
a confession of every time I bent my spine
to fit a coffin-sized dream.
The ash whispered: Fine is a tombstone.
How many years did I bury beneath
the polite smile, the safe wage,
the altar of someone else’s permission?
But the mirror does not lie.
It holds me by the throat:
“This mess is yours. This brilliance is too.
No one is coming.”
So I claw open the cage,
nails bloodied, ribs raw,
and I decide—
not someday, not when the world softens—
but now.
Now I choose fire over shrinking,
clarity over maybe,
a life unraveled from the lie of later.
The cost of smallness is soul-deep rot.
The prize of decision is thunder in the veins.
And I am done being careful.
I am done rehearsing.
Watch me stand bare against the wind,
burning with the only promise that matters:
I will not play small.
I will not wait.
I will not beg.
I decide,
and the world trembles to rearrange.

I just finished reading Small Business Big Dream by my friend, Connie Anne and it’s truly inspiring.
This book speaks directly to anyone who feels stuck, circling the same goals but ready so for change. It speaks of everything that keeps you stuck and shows how she will be able to get you unstuck.
I can testify that working with her changes your life in multiple ways. I worked with her for 6 months in her 1:1 coaching program and afterwards I joined her Beyond Your Beliefs course for accountability.
Working with her got me to start my business, leave my 9 to 5 and reach multiple other goals. Personal and professional.
